Ives went down to a strong Shelford III by nine tries to one, but were not disgraced.
The difference was that Shelford took all their chances.
Ives had good spells in the game, but a lack of discipline both in terms of the penalty count and when on the attack made all the difference.
The try they did score was a fine one. A quickly taken penalty saw the forwards batter the hosts back towards their own line. Finally releasing the ball to the backs, some slick passing left Ed Mortimer with two to beat. He put on the afterburners and rounded both to score in the corner.
Shelford were worthy winners as they added tries throughout the game.
