Brennan seals fine hattrick at the death

In breezy, bright conditions St. Ives got into their stride early making good ground.
After weathering the initial onslaught Oakham gained a foothold, kicking to the corner. A simple training ground move saw them breach the Ives midfield to score a converted try.
There was no panic in the Bulls ranks, however, as they went back to their patterns and gained territory.
A penalty attempt in front was declined for a kick to the corner,. The lineout set well for Sam Marjason-Stamp to score from the maul.
Shortly after, the same series of events saw Olli Bartlett take clean ball. Realising Oakham had stepped away hoping for an accidental offside, he turned and trotted over for Ives' second.
As the second quarter began, the Bulls' back showed their prowess. Alex Henly made a good half break and released Mike Brennan on the wing. The Oakham defence was left flailing as he scorched up the touchline to score.
As the half drew to a close, Ives secured the try bonus point with a replica try. From deep in his own half, Henly made another clean break, drew his man and sent Brennan clear to score.
With the wind making kicking difficult, the score at halftime was 20-7.
The second half was a much less fluent affair. With neither side seeming able to hold on to the final pass, knock-ons and forward passes were aplenty. One calculation suggested more scrums than caught ball.
Regardless, Ives pack took matters into their own hands, pounding the visitors' line. Eventually the pressure told and Tom Woodrow scored with Henly converting.
There followed the scrum fest, until a lapse in the Bulls' concentration saw Oakham score in the last 5 minutes.
With the scent of a losing bonus point in the offing Oakham redoubled their efforts.
With time running out, and risking all, the Oakham backs attempted a wide ball. Brennan was wise to the effort and picked off the interception to complete a fine hattrick, converted by Henly to leave the final score 34-14 to the Bulls.
Ives 2nds enjoyed an extraordinary day on their travels to Sawston. With the home side struggling to finalise a team, resources were shared ensuring all present got a game. The Bulls ran away with it scoring 13 tries to one. With Lewis Hall converting 10/13 the score finished 5-85 to the Ives.
Try scorers included Jack Blackley (4), Cullan Smy (3), Hall (2), Freddie Fordham, Owen Clarricoats, Joe Paddington and Jones Wadd
